My first professional job was at the age of eight years old when I landed a part in a National Broadway tour. From there I performed in NYC on Broadway and in professional theater along the east coast. People noticed my maturity, focus, and work-ethic. While in many ways I was older than my years, my childhood innocence protected me from fully realizing the impact of living the life of a performer; it wasn’t until I was an adolescent that I began to really feel this pressure and had to learn to navigate it effectively. Throughout this time, I earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology, as I loved learning about people and how they think—which is what acting has always been to me—a form of applied psychology. This culminated in me pursuing my Masters in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from UNC Chapel Hill, and I became an LCMHCA following completion of this program.
My passion and interest in psychology and therapy are intertwined with my passion for acting. I truly enjoy learning about people, how they think, how they feel, what they say, what they don’t say- and as a therapist - supporting them in their personal growth.
I am grateful to continue to pursue my passion for performing now while maintaining a healthy artist:life balance and am passionate about helping other performers do the same. I specialize in working with high-achieving people and performers and love supporting people through generalized anxiety, performance anxiety, perfectionism, over-thinking, depression, self-esteem, and work/life balance.
From the perspective I’ve gained from my many roles working with children I appreciate that childhood is a unique time to lay the foundation on many fronts, including mental health. I’ve worked as a K-12 school counselor and as a preschool and elementary classroom teacher in addition to my work as a child psychotherapist. I am passionate about working alongside families to support their children and love getting to witness children and adolescents make great gains towards their own self-actualization. I specialize in working with high-achieving and “gifted” children who might also experience symptoms of anxiety, depression, or OCD.
I approach therapy by drawing from evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy while also using more creative and somatic based approaches to meet each person where they are. I am trained in SAFE EMDR and am passionate about the utilization of EMDR for anxiety (performance anxiety and other forms of anxiety/trauma). I am also a certified Safe and Sound Practitioner and have seen significant benefits by utilizing this protocol in my work with high-achieving people. I believe that everyone can benefit from psychotherapy, and I truly enjoy helping others live their lives to the fullest. I am often described as warm, empathetic, and lighthearted in my work.
